Two contestants of a beauty pageant bravely faced #ipaBITAGmo to reveal the ‘irregularity’ and ‘modus’ behind the recently concluded coronation night of the Mrs. Universe Philippines pageant in Parañaque City.

Mrs. Jessa Macaraig and Ruth Adefuin, both contestants of the 2022 Mrs. Universe

Philippines, on Monday, October 24, sought the help of BITAG to expose the alleged ‘crown selling’ and the irregularities perpetuated by the organizers.

Allegedly, the event organizer, Mrs. Charo Calalo-Uy, charged every contestant a registration fee of P50,000 each, according to the complaints.

In addition, Macaraig revealed that they were also allegedly forced to sell tickets worth P5,000 per piece.

The complainants added that they were also offered to invest in a networking business worth P249,000 to be in the Top 6 of the competition.

A total of 19 candidates participated in the 2022 Mrs. Universe Philippines pageant held at the Okada Manila Grand Ballroom in Parañaque City on October 2.

Based on the format of the pageant, wives or married beauty contestants should only compete for the crown of Mrs. Universe Philippines, but most of the awardees are not married wives, according to the complaining candidates.

Macaraig and Adefuin said only candidates who can afford the pricey ticket sales have been given the special awards.

It was late then when the two candidates noticed that allegedly the coordinators targeted successful businesswomen to be victimized in the scheme.

“Sir, I was given 75 tickets to sell to my acquaintances. It’s P5,000 per ticket so I have to contribute P375,000. That’s very huge, we cannot afford to provide that amount of money,” Macaraig told BITAG.

Macaraig was named Mrs. Universe Philippines – Pacific Continental 2022, but her crown was revoked because she could not pay the ticket debts worth P375,000.

Apart from this, Macaraig said the candidates will also be asked to pay an amount of P350,000 to represent the Philippines in an international pageant to be held in Korea this year.

Meanwhile, Ben Tulfo vowed to help the predicaments of the mommy beauties.

Through his flagship program, #ipaBITAGmo, Tulfo professed not to let go of the case until the perpetrators could pay the consequences of the law for victimizing the weak and powerless.
