Israel Adesanya will once again face his old kickboxing rival, Alex Pereira to defend his UFC middleweight title on Nov. 12 at the Madison Square Garden via pay-per-view.
“The Last Style Bender” will battle against Pereira in an attempt to win a sixth straight title defense in the highly-anticipated main event of UFC 281.
The nearing showdown could be Adesanya’s biggest title defense yet as the Brazilian striker has two kickboxing victories over him in 2016 and 2017, with the second one seeing him knocked out cold for the first time.
However, despite their history, Adesanya said Pereira does not pose a threat to his title.
“No, I don’t think [he presents the toughest challenge],” Adesanya said in an interview with ESPN.
“He’s very one-dimensional. He’s early on in this game as well so I’m even glad to get him now. I don’t know who he has in his corner. I know he has Glover [Teixeira] and his boxing coach. I don’t know what their background is, I don’t really mind, I just worry about me. I definitely know he’s not as smart as me in the cage. I know that for a fact.”
The 33-year-old middleweight champion has an overall record of 23-1 which includes 5 title defenses.
Meanwhile, Pereira who made his first debut in UFC in Nov 2021 has a record of 6-1.
