Filipino mixed martial artist Stephen “The Sniper” Loman outclassed his Brazilian nemesis, Bibiano Fernandes, in the main card of ONE Championships on Saturday, Nov. 19, in Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Loman was hailed as the victor to snatch the bantamweight title of the MMA division dethroning the former 11-time ONE Bantamweight World Champion.
The Filipino slugger made a strong presence against the highly-decorated grappler Fernandes.
Loman settled with a unanimous decision, completing victory in the 153-pound catch-weight bout.
“The Sniper” showed consistent aggression wearing down Fernandes with constant pressure en route to a unanimous decision.
In a report of ABS-CBN Sports, the victory of Loman positioned him as a possible shot against the winner in the title rematch between John Lineker and Fabriacio Andrade.
“The game plan went well. I was confident with my striking and wrestling,” Loman echoed.
He said Fernendes is hard to fight because “He’s a former champion, is a legend in the sport and he’s tough.”
The report said, right from the opening bell, Loman peppered Fernandes with low kicks, showing no intimidation against the BJJ specialist’s potential takedown attempts.
The Filipino specialists even surprised the Brazilian champ by scoring a takedown and going for a ground-and-pound assault.
