Isang nagpakilalang lider ng rebeldeng New People’s Army (NPA) sa Mt. Province ang sumuko sa pamahalaan matapos maipit sa intensibong military operations ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) sa Hilagang Luzon.
Sa ulat ng Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM), kinilala ang NPA commander na si Arnold Baquiran na may alyas na “Kumander Cobra”, 42, residente ng Sitio Pagga, Brgy. Bantay, Paracelis, Mt. Province.
Si kumander “Cobra” ang umano’y lider ng “Milisyang Bayan” na naka-base sa San Mariano, Isabela.
Nasukol ang kuta ng rebelde ng Joint Task Force Kaugnay sa pangunguna ng 69th Infantry Battalion ng Philippine Army (PA) at Philippine National Police (PNP).
Isinurender ni kumander Cobra ang mataas na kalibre ng baril at iba’t ibang uri ng pampasabog tulad ng Springfield caliber 30 Garand rifle; five rounds na 30 caliber ammunition; nine rounds 40 mm. ammunition; at M203 grenade launcher.
Ayon kay NOLCOM Commander Lt. Gen. Ernesto Torres Jr., napilitang sumuko sa militar si kumander Cobra dahil sa intensibong opensiba at operasyon ng AFP sa Northern Luzon.
Dahil dito, tiniyak ni Torres na lalo pa nilang paiigtingin ang operasyon sa mga liblib na lugar upang malipol ang mga kasapi ng NPA at iba pang rebeldeng grupo.
