A week after television host Ferdinand “Vhong” Navarro moved to Taguig City Jail, the Regional Trial Court (RTC) has granted the comedian’s camp to post bail for the rape case filed by former model Deniece Millinete Cornejo.
The Taguig City RTC, through Presiding Judge Loralie Cruz Datahan of Branch 69, set Navarro’s bail at P1 million.
“After a thorough scrutiny of the documentary and testimonial evidence presented in this petition for bail, the Court finds that the prosecution fell short in establishing that the guilt of the accused is strong,” stated the Dec. 5 order of Branch 69.
In the order, Judge Datahan cited the inconsistencies of the three affidavits issued by Cornejo on Jan. 29, 2014; Feb. 27, 2014; and Oct. 16, 2015.
The judge said the first two affidavits did not mention the rape happened on Jan. 17, 2014. The incident, however, is mentioned in the third affidavit.
The court added that Cornejo even said in her affidavit that she sent text messages to Navarro after getting raped.
“The foregoing statements of the complainant are, to the mind of this Court, inconsistent with her claim of trauma and outside reasonable expectations for someone who just underwent a painful ordeal,” Datahan said.
The actor-host-comedian surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) when the trial court issued an arrest warrant against him in the rape case.
He was recently transferred to Taguig City Jail after the court issued a commitment order for the rape case.
Once the P1 million bail is posted, Navarro can be set free, according to RTC.

Navarro’s collaborating counsel Atty. Mariglen Garduque confirmed that the 45-year-old actor-comedian was out of the jail at about 6 p.m.
