Kapag nagkataon, kamot-ulo ang salubong sa Bagong Taon ng mga consumer ng Manila Electric Company (Meralco) kung matutuloy ang pangamba ng mga business analyst na iha-hataw sa Enero 2023 ang panibagong taas singil sa kuryente.
Ito ang nakikitang collateral damage ng mga analyst dahil sa naudlot na power supply agreement ng Meralco at ng South Premiere Power Corp. (SPPC) ng San Miguel Corporation.
Simula kahapon, Dec. 7, kanselado ang kasunduan ng SMC Global Power at Meralco para sa 670 megawatts na supply ng kuryente sa mga consumer ng Meralco.
Ibinasura kasi ng Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) ang petisyon ng dalawang korporasyon na baguhin ang napagkasunduan nilang presyo noong Setyembre.
Paliwanag ng ERC, ito ay isang “fixed contract” kaya hindi pwedeng baguhin habang umiiral ang kontrata.
Sa ngayon, nakikipag-usap ang Meralco sa mga power generation company para makakuha ng 670 megawatts na isu-supply sa mga consumers.
Pero sa kabila ng pag-atras ng SMC na suplayan ng kuryente ang Meralco, hindi umano ito magreresulta ng power shortage partikular sa Metro Manila at mga karatig na bayan.
Sa pangamba naman na magkakaroon ng price adjustment sa singil sa kuryente, wala pang malinaw na abiso rito ang Meralco.
Tiniyak din ng ERC na hindi papayagan ang hirit na taas-singil sa kuryente kung wala itong sapat na basehan.
