Binigyan ng second chance ang career ng tinaguriang ‘bad boy’ collegiate cager na si John Amores matapos itong sungkitin ng Zamboanga Valientes para sa kanilang kampanya sa ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) sa susunod na taon.
Ayon sa general manager ng Valientes na si Nino Rejhi Natividad, deserving ang ex-JRU Heavy Bomber cager na mabigyan ng pangalawang pagkakataon para patunayan ang kanyang sarili sa hardcourt.
“We at Valientes believe in second chances. He is a good player who made a mistake in which he truly regrets,” ani Natividad.
Pinatawan ng indefinite ban ng National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) si Amores matapos pagsasapakin ang ilang player ng College of St. Benilde (CSB) sa kanilang game noong Nobyembre 8.
Sinibak din ng Jose Rizal University si Amores sa Heavy Bombers at sinuspinde sa kanyang mga klase.
Bukod dito, kinasuhan din ang ex-collegiate player ng serious physical injury ng dalawang manlalaro ng Blazers na sina Jimboy Pasturan at Taine Davis.
May nakabinbin ding physical injury case si Amores na isinampa noon ni Mark Gil Belmonte ng University of the Philippines (UP) dahil sa pisikalan sa laro noong Hulyo.
Sa kabila nito, naniniwala ang Zamboanga Valientes na malaki ang maitutulong ni Amores sa kanilang koponan lalo’t n ag-a-average ito ng 9.0 points, 4.3 rebounds at 1.2 assist sa NCAA.
“One mistake does not define who you are. Tingin namin, makakatulong siya sa team lalo na sa defense at outside shooting niya. Aabangan natin ang pag-angat ni Amores sa Valientes,” giit ni Natividad.
