Iminungkahi ng isang opisyal ng Department of Agriculture (DA) na dapat magkaroon ng sistema para irehistro ang lahat ng cold storage facilities sa buong bansa upang masolusyonan ang talamak na smuggling ng agricultural products.
Sa panayam ng Super Radyo dzBB kay DA deputy spokesperson Rex Estoperez, sinabi nito na mababantayan ang labas-pasok na produkto sa bansa kung mayroong monitoring sa lahat ng cold storage facilities sa bansa.
Isa sa problema ng mga Filipino farmers ang talamak na smuggling ng imported products na lalong nagpapahirap sa mga magsasaka at mga local producers.
Tulad na lamang umano ang pagdagsa ng mga imported na frozen meat sa mga palengke na tumatalo sa mas mahal na karne ng baboy at baka ng mga local hog producers.
“Dapat siguro panahon na. May mga imperfections tayo sa ating mga system, but it’s high time also na lahat ng cold storage siguro ipa-rehistro na natin,” ani Estoperez sa radio interview.
Bukod umano sa ginagawang bodega ng imported agri products ang mga cold storage facilities, ginagawa rin umano itong taguan ng grupo ng mga negosyante na kumokontrol sa bagsakan ng supply sa merkado.
Napapansin ng DA na kinokontrol ng ilang negosyante at mga hoarders ang supply ng agricultural products upang tumaas ang presyo nito sa merkado.
Pinaka-kawalan lamang umano ang kanilang mga produkto kapag siguradong mahal na ang presyo nito sa mga pamilihan.
Samantala, nanawagan ang grupong Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) sa DA at sa Bureau of Customs (BOC) na seryosohin ang paghuli sa mga imported na agricultural products sa bansa.
Ibinunyag ng grupo na sinasamantala ng mga hoarders ang pagpapakawala ng mga imported products sa merkado dahil mataas na demand ng mamimili ngayong Kapaskuhan.
