Football superstar Lionel Messi has confirmed that he will play his last game for Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals on Sunday, December 18.
The 35-year old Messi on Tuesday led a 3-0 victory over Croatia in the semi-finals scoring a penalty and a wonderful assist in the other two goals netted by Manchester City striker, Julian Alvarez.
“I feel very happy, to be able to achieve this, to finish my World Cup journey by playing my last game in a final,” Messi told Argentine media outlet Diario Deportivo Ole.
“It’s many years for the next one and I don’t think I’ll be able to do it. And to finish like this, it’s the best,” added the Argentina captain.
Argentina, with their recent victory, will have a chance to banish the demons of their heartbreaking defeat against Germany in the 2014 finals, as well as securing their country’s first World Cup title since 1986.
The South American team will take on France or Morroco in the finals on Sunday in Qatar, with Messi already on his fifth bid, hopes to win the eluding world cup trophy.
