Huling araw na ng “free ride” o libreng sakay para sa EDSA Bus Carousel sa Sabado, Disyembre 31, 2022, ayon sa Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Pagpatak ng unang araw ng Enero 2023 sa Linggo, maniningil na ng minimum fare na P15.00 ang bawat sasakay sa carousel bus ayon kay DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista.
“Simula ika-1 ng Enero 2023 ganap na alas-5 ng umaga (5am) ay may bayad na ang pamasahe mula PITX hanggang Monumento (vice versa),” ayon sa abiso ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) sa kanilang Facebook page.
Malaking bagay sa mga mananakay ang EDSA bus carousel program dahil base sa monitoring ng DOTr, pumapalo sa humigit-kumulang 400,000 pasahero kada araw ang sineserbisyuhan ng libreng sakay.
Sa ulat ng www.philstar.com, inamin ni Bautista na hindi na kayang balikatin ng gobyerno ang P12 milyong gastos sa araw-araw na subsidiya sa pamasahe.
Ayon kay Bautista, may nakalaang P1.2 bilyong pondo ang DOTr para sa service contracting program (SCP) sa 2023, pero gagamitin umano ito ng kagawaran para mag-renta ng public utility vehicles (PUVs).
Hindi aniya pwedeng ibuhos lahat ang pondo ng SCP sa free ride para sa EDSA carousel, dahil may mga pangangailangan din ang ibang ruta at serbisyo ng DOTr para sa libreng sakay.
