Kinumpirma kahapon, Dec. 29, ng Department of Health (DOH) na nakapasok na sa Pilipinas ang pinangangambahan na subvariant ng Covid-19 na “Omicron BN.1”.
Ayon sa DOH, dalawang kaso ang nag-positibo sa isinagawang genome sequencing ng University of the Philippines – Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC).
Ang BN.1 ay produkto ng BA.2.75 variant na masusing binabantayan ng European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
Isa ang BN.1 subvariant sa binabantayan ng ECDC dahil mas mabilis ang pagkalat nito kumpara sa ibang variant ng Covid-19.
“The variant was initially flagged by the researchers due to its increasing prevalence and mutations that may lead to enhanced immune evasion,” ayon sa pahayag ng DOH.
Sa kabila nito nilinaw ng DOH na halos wala namang pinagkaiba ang BN.1 subvariant sa orihinal na Omicron variant.Halos pareho lamang umano ang BN.1 at Omicron kung susuriin ang disease severity at clinical manifestations nito.
