Pumanaw na ang dating lider ng Simbahang Katolika na si Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI sa edad na 95.
Ito ay kinumpirma ngayong araw, Dec. 31, ng Holy See Press Office sa pamamagitan ng official publication web portal ng Vatican na Vatican News.
Ayon sa media office ng Vatican, si Pope Benedict XVI ay nalagutan ng hininga bandang alas-9:34 ng umaga noong Sabado (Vatican time) sa kanyang tinutuluyang tahanan sa Mater Ecclesiae Monastery sa Vatican City sa Roma.
Ang Mater Ecclesiae Monastery ang piniling tahanan ng dating Santo Papa buhat nang magretiro ito sa Petrine ministry noong 2013.
“With sorrow, I inform you that the Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI, passed away today at 9:34 AM in the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican. Further information will be provided as soon as possible,” ayon sa abiso ng Vatican.
Mananatili ang mga labi ng dating Santo Papa sa Saint Peter’s Basilica sa Vatican City hanggang January 2, 2023 para sa mga mga gustong masilayan ito sa huling pagkakataon.
“As of Monday morning, 2 January 2023, the body of the Pope Emeritus will be in Saint Peter’s Basilica so the faithful can bid farewell.“
Kinumpirma rin ng Vatican News na ilang araw nang nakaratay ang dating Santo Papa dahil sa panghihina ng katawan.
Mismong si Pope Francis umano ang nag-anunsyo noong Disyembre 28 na nanghihina na ang katawan ni Pope Benedict XVI dahil sa katandaan.
