Binatikos ng human rights watch group ang panawagan ni Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos na mag-resign ang lahat ng colonel at heneral ng Philippine National Police (PNP) upag bigyang daan ang malawakang paglilinis sa mga sangkot sa illegal drug operations sa bansa.
Sa panayam ng programang “Rundown” ng ANC, sinabi ni Carlos Conde, senior researcher ng Human Rights Watch Philippines na tila pa-pogi lamang ang hakbang na ito ni Abalos.
“I think the Filipinos have a word for this, pampapogi,” ani Conde.
Maliban sa tila propaganda lamang ang hakbang ng DILG, tinawag din ng grupo na maling hakbang ang pagpapa-resign sa mga police officials.
Ayon kay Conde, hindi totoong solusyon ang pagpapa-resign sa mga police colonels at generals para malutas ang problema sa illegal na droga sa bansa.
Bukod dito, nilalabag din umano ang karapatan ng mga opisyal ng PNP dahil sa hindi pagdaan sa due process.
“This is kind of a passive move to try to root out the problem. Nobody is stupid to resign en masse just because the interior secretary said so,” pahayag ni Conde sa ANC.
Sa halip aniya na ibunton ang lahat ng sisi sa mga pulis, dapat gumawa ng hakbang ang gobyerno para malutas ang problema sa illegal na droga na hindi kinakailangang gumamit ng dahas o patayan.
“The only way they can get out of this mindset that every drug user needs to be incarcerated or killed is to adopt and embrace the whole idea of harm reduction,” giit ni Conde.
