Pormal nang nanumpa ng katapatan (oath of allegiance) sa Republika ng Pilipinas ang bagong naturalized player na si Justin Donta Brownlee kahapon, Jan 16.
Ito ay ilang araw matapos pirmahan ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ang batas na magkakaloob sa Barangay Ginebra San Miguel import ng kanyang Filipino citizenship sa ilalim ng Republic Act 11937.
Naganap ang oath-taking sa pangunguna ni Senate justice and human rights committee chairman Francis Tolentino sa isang seremonya na ginanap sa senado sa Pasay City.
“I’m just very honored and just blessed to be a Filipino and represent the country in the right way and show that Filipino pride to the world and on the international stage of basketball,” wika ni Brownlee matapos ang panunumpa.
Bilang naturalized player ng bansa, inaasahang mapapabilang na sa lineup ng Gilas Pilipinas si Brownlee kung saan makakasalpukan ng pambansang koponan ang Lebanon at Jordan sa ika-anim at huling window ng FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers sa Pebrero.
Inaasahan din ang three-time PBA Best Import na sasabak sa aksyon sa gaganaping sa South East Asian Games sa Cambodia sa darating na Mayo.
