Kalahating milyong piso ang karagdagang pondong inilaan ng gobyerno para sa fuel subsidy ng mga driver ng pampublikong sasakyan ngayong taon ayon kay Quezon City Rep. Marvin Rillo.
Mula sa dating P2.5 billion budget noong 2022, itinaas ito sa 3 bilyon upang protektahan ang mga PUV driver sa pagtaas ng presyo ng krudo.
“The upward adjustment is meant to cushion a greater number of public transport drivers from elevated fuel prices,” ani Rillo.
Ang cash aid o ayuda na P6,500 para sa mga driver ay ipinapamahagi ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) sa tulong ng Land Bank of the Philippines o kaya naman sa pamamagitan ng fuel vouchers sa mga accredited na gas station.
Samantala, mayroon ding P490 million na nakalaan sa fuel subsidy para sa mga mangingisda habang P510 million naman ang para sa mga magsasaka ng mais ayon sa kongresista.
“There’s really no telling where oil prices will be in the months ahead, considering that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is still ongoing, so the government has to be ready to sustain subsidies to the most vulnerable sectors,” wika ni Rillo.
Ayon sa mambabatas, ang pagbibigay ng naturang fuel subsidy ay sisimulan kapag ang average price ng krudo sa Dubai batay sa Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) sa loob ng tatlong buwan– ay umabot o humigit na sa $80 dolyar kada bareles.
Ang presyo ng krudo sa Dubai na idedeliber sa Pebrero ay umabot na sa $81.82 kada bareles at $81.25 naman kada bareles para sa buwan ng Marso.
