Ngayong taon, mas palalakasin pa ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) ang pagpapatupad ng Electronic Tracking of Containerized Cargo System o E-TRACC.
Ang E-TRACC ay ang real-time monitoring ng inland movement ng mga container good sa pamamagitan ng GPS tracking device na nakakabit sa mga container van.
Makikita rito kung ang mga kargamento mula sa mga pantalan ay nakarating sa mga warehouse at freight station na pinangangasiwaan ng BOC.
Ayon kay Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz, inilunsad ang automated Custom system upang masawata ang malawakang smuggling sa bansa tulad ng paglilipat o diversion at tampering habang ibinabyahe ang mga container van.
“We obtain real-time alarms through the system 24/7 using GPS-enabled tracking locks, to prevent smuggling by diversion of cargoes,” paliwanag ni Ruiz.
Sa datos ng Customs noong nakaraang taon, nakapagtala ang E-TRACC ng 517,992 byahe ng mga cargo. Sa nasabing datos, 3.50 percent o 18,099 na pagbisita sa mga kargamento ang naalarma dahil sa irregular movement nito.
Ganunpaman, kampante ang BOC na nasusunod pa rin ang kanilang mandato, “the minimal number of alarms manifests the high compliance rate of consignees due to the BOC’s strict monitoring of cargo movements to suppress illegal activities, including route deviations, unauthorized start and end trips, and tampering with alarms.”
