Naalarma si Senator Raffy Tulfo sa kaso ni Jullebee Ranara, isang overseas Filipino worker (OFW) na napaslang sa Kuwait ng lalaking anak ng kanyang amo nitong nakaraang linggo.
Ayon sa senador na Chairman ng Committee of Migrant Workers, hindi umano dapat balewalain ang pagkamatay ng isang modern day hero dahil maaari itong mangyari pa muli sa iba pang mga OFW.
Sa plenary session noong Martes Enero 24, 2023, sinabi ni Tulfo na kailangang tiyakin ng gobyerno na protektado ang mga OFW sa abusadong employer sa ibang bansa.
Binigyang diin niya na dapat maging mahigpit din ang tayo pagdating sa screening ng magiging employer ng ating mga kababayan.
“Sa kaso ni Jullebee, hindi na sana nangyari ito kung nasasala lang ng mabuti ang potensyal na employers ng ating mga OFWs.
Matagal ko na po isinusulong na dapat may katumbas na security requirements ang mga nais maging employers ng mga OFWs. Kung sila (employers) ay naninigurado na ligtas sila sa nakukuha nilang OFW, dapat tayo din masigurado na ligtas ang mga kababayan natin.” Wika ng senador sa plenaryo.
Dagdag pa ng senador, hindi din daw sana mangyayari ito kung naging mabilis lang din sana ang naging aksyon ng recruitment agency.
“Akin napansin, 100 OFW ang nirecruit per month, 1,200 OFW sa isang taon. Ang tanong ilan tauhan ng mga recruitment agency dito at ang sumasalo doon sa abroad na Foreign Recruitment Agency,3 lang minsan 2 lang, paano sagutin pag tumawag ang 1200 na OFW ng sabay-sabay dahil nagka problema, 3 tao lang?” saad ni Tulfo.
Ikokonsulta din ng senador ang Department on Migrant Workers at Overseas Workers Welfare Administration ang mga hakbang upang mapabilis ang pagtugon sa mga OFW nakaranas ng pang aabuso.
“As a chairman of migrant workers I will not stop at being a representative here in the Senate. I will fight for what they deserve as a modern day hero of our country and their families for whom they risked their lives by venturing into foreign lands just to provide for them,” mariing sinabi ng senador.
