Planong repasuhin ni Vice President at Department of Education Secretary Sara Duterte ang K-12 program.
Base sa Basic Education Report 2023 (BER 2023) assessment ni VP Sara, mababa ang bilang ng mga nagtapos na nakahanap ng trabaho o 10% lang ng nagtapos ng senior high ang na-empleyo. Samantalang, 83% naman ng mga nagtapos ng K-12 ang kinailangan pa munang pumasok sa kolehiyo para makapasok sa trabaho.
Dahil dito, rerebisahin ng DEPed ang K-12 Program at planong bawasan na ang mga subject.
“We will reduce the number of learning areas in K to 3 from 7 to 5 to focus on foundational skills in literacy and numeracy in the early grades, particularly among disadvantaged students. We will strengthen our literacy and numeracy programs,” pahayag ni Duterte.
Malaking hamon din sa kagawaran ang kakulangan ng mga classroom at mga pasilidad kung kaya planong Deped na magpatayo ng 6,000 classrooms ngayong taon.
Tututukan din daw nila na matugunan ang mga problema ng mga guro at suportahan na mapataas ang kanilang kapasidad at kakayahan.
Ang BER 2023 o tinawag na “MATATAG” ay inilunsad ng ahensya upang magsisilbing gabay o roadmap ng DepEd sa pagtugon sa mga hamon sa basic education sector.
Ang K-12 program ay ipinatupad sa panahon ng administrasyon ng yumaong Pangulong Benigno Aquino III.
