Dumating kagabi sa bansa si US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin para sa isang pagpupulong na tatalakay sa pagpapaigting ng alyansa ng Pilipinas at Amerika.
Ito ang ikalawang pagkakataon na bumisita ang senior US official sa Pilipinas magmula noong taong 2021.Sinalubong si Austin sa airport ni US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson.
Nakatakdang makipagkita si Austin kay Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. para sa isang courtesy call.
Makikipagpulong naman ang US Defense Chief kay National Defense Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr, Foreign Secretary Enrique Manalo at Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Andres Centino.
“Wheels down in the [PH flag] Philippines where I’ll meet with Secretary of National Defense Galvez & other senior leaders to build on our strong bilateral relationship, discuss a range of security initiatives, and advance our shared vision of a #freeandopenpacific,” ani Austin sa kanyang twitter.
Inaasahang tatalakayin sa mangyayaring pagpupulong ang pagpapaigting sa Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement o EDCA. Ang EDCA ay isang kasunduan na magpapahintulot sa US military na magsagawa ng mga aktibidades at pasilidad sa iilang kampo sa bansa.
Ang Pilipinas at Amerika ay may kasunduang militar na pinirmahan taong 2014 kung saan inaasahan na magtutulungan ang bawat isa sa oras ng pag atake o giyera.
