Nasabat ng Bureau of Customs – Port of Zamboanga (POZ) ang mga kontrabandong sibuyas na nagkakahalaga ng P18.6 milyon lulan ng isang vessel sa Zamboanga City.
Ang mga smuggled onion ay naharang ng BOC noong Jan. 25 sa katubigan ng Barangay Ayala sakay ng MV Princess Nurdisza na umano’y nagmula Tawi-Tawi at patungong Balingasan, Zamboanga City.
“Through the Water Patrol Division, the POZ intercepted 5,611 mesh bags of imported red onions with an estimated market value of P8.5 million and 2,249 mesh bags of imported white onions valued at P10.1 million during a maritime patrol operation,” pahayag ng BOC.
Ayon sa BOC, bigo ang mga tauhan ng nasabing vessel na makapagpakita ng Sanitary at Phytosanitary Import Clearance mula sa Department of Agriculture (DA) para sa mga sibuyas.
Dinala ang mga kontrabandong sibuyas sa DA Research Center sa Zamboanga City para pansamantalang itabi.
Ito ang ikatlong matagumpay na pagkumpiska ng mga smuggled na sibuyas ng BOC simula noong nakaraang Jan. 22 at 23 operations.
