Umaapela ngayon sa mga kritiko ang ang bagong itinalagang kalihim ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) na si Valenzuela First District Rep. Rex Gatchalian
Sa isang panayam sa Teleradyo kahapon, mariing pinabulaanan ni Gatchalian ang ilang komento na malaki ang naging impluwensiya ng kanyang pamilya sa kanyang pagkakaluklok sa posisyon.
Giit ni Gatchalian, inilagay sya bilang kalihim ng DSWD dahil marahil sa kanyang 15 taong karanasan sa serbisyo publiko kung saan tatlongtermino o siyam na taon siyang nanilbihan bilang alkalde ng lungsod ng Valenzuela .
“Ang nakita siguro sa akin ng Pangulo is the merit of my credentials and my experience as local chief executive and legislator. Iyan siguro yung nakita nilang skill set sa akin kaya ko nakuha yung posisyon,” paliwanag ni Gatchalian.
“Makikiusap nalang muna ako sa mga kritiko at mga nakatingin na bigyan niyo muna ako ng chance to perform. Give me a chance as DSWD Secretary,” apela ng bagong Kalihim.
Enero 31 nang pormal na nanumpa si Gatchalian bilang bagong pinuno ng ahensiya matapos siyang iiluklok sa puwesto ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Samantala, malugod namang tinanggap ni dating DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo ang pagkakatalaga kay Gatchalian bilang bagong kalihim ng departamento.
“I believe the President made the right choice of putting or appointing Congressman Gatchalian as the new DSWD secretary. I believe, DSWD will be in good hands and I believe that social services will always come on time, especially during calamities,” saad ni Tulfo.
