The return of UFC superstar Conor McGregor has been finally confirmed as he will coach in the upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter” before he faces ex-Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler inside the octagon.
UFC President Dana White on Saturday said that McGregor and Chandler will both coach and lead their respective teams in the TUF. The two renowned fighters will clash later in the year at a yet-to-be-announced date and venue.
“Team McGregor versus Team Chandler. This season premieres Tuesday, May 30th, and runs through Tuesday, August 15. At the end of the season, McGregor and Chandler will fight live on ESPN+ pay-per-view. I do not have a date and location for that but I will announce it soon,” said White.
The 34-year old McGregor has a record of 22-6 and has not competed since he broke his leg in a technical knockout defeat to Dustin Poirer last July 2021. The Irish-born fighter has dropped two straight and three of his past four outings.
Meanwhile, Chandler (23-8) is a former three-time Bellator lightweight champion. He has a record of 2-3 since joining the UFC as a free agent in 2021. The 36-year old Missouri native is coming off a loss to Dustin Poirer in a round three submission last November.
