Nababahala ngayon ang Senado sa pabata ng pabata na edad ng mga kababaihang nabubuntis o yung tinatawag na teenage pregnancy.
Sa isinagawang Senate hearing ng Committee on Women, Family Relations and Gender Equality, sinabi ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), na noong taong 2021 2,299 mga batang babae na may edad 10 hanggang 14 ang maagang naging ina, kumpara sa 2,113 lang noong taong 2020 sa parehong age group.
Dahil dito, hiniling ni Sen. Risa Hontiveros sa mga state agency na magtulungan upang masugpo ang teenage pregnancy.
“As legislators and leaders of implementing agencies, everyone here in the room has a responsibility for each and every one of these young parents,” pahayag ng senadora.
Samantala, nilinaw naman ni Sen. Juan Edgardo Angara na dahil pabata na ng pabata ang mga babaeng nabubuntis, bumaba naman ang bilang ng teenage pregnancy sa mga batang babaeng edad 15-19. Ganunpaman, nakakabahala pa rin daw ito. Ipinunto rin ng senador na karamihan sa mga nagiging ama ay mas matanda ng sampung tao sa mga batang nagiging ina na paglabag sa statutory age of sexual consent.
“Even more concerning was the data on fathers who were more than 10 years older than the teenage mothers, which the PSA pegged at 6 to 7 percent annually from 2016 to 2020,” ani Angara na Chairman ng Senate youth committee.
Tinutulak naman ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri sa Department of Justice at Philippine National Police na arestuhin at usigin ang mga lalaking sangkot sa pakikipagrelasyon sa mga menor de edad.
“I urge the PNP and the DOJ (Department of Justice) to immediately prosecute these violations of the statutory rape age law. Rape is a heinous crime,” ayon kay Zubiri.
