Dinomina ni Obiena ang torneyo kung saan matagumpay nitong nalagpasan ang 5.87 meter clearance sa kanyang ikalawang subok.
Pumangalawa kay Obiena si Rutger Koppelaar ng Netherland, sinundan ito ni Ben Broeders ng Belgium at Menro Vloom ng Netherlands na pare-parehong nagtala ng 5.82m record.
Una nang sinungkit ng 27-anyos na si Obiena ang ginto sa ginanap na Orlen Cup at Perche en or sa France kamakailan.
Ito ang ikalimang pagkakataon na tumuntong sa ibabaw ng podium si Obiena kabilang ang silver at bronze na kanyang nakuha sa nakaraang Internationales Springer Meeting sa Cottbus, Germany at Mondo Classic sa Uppsala, Sweden.
Samantala, nakipagugnayan na ang Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) kay Obiena patungkol sa naging pahayag nito sa kanyang social media account kagabi, Feb. 8.
“In light of the recent statement of Mr. Ernest John Obiena posted on his social media account, I immediately communicated with him and made internal actions in the PSC,” ani PSC Chairman Richard Bachmann.
Sa kanyang post, ibinunyag ni Obiena na halos isang taon na umano hindi nakakatanggap ng sahod ang kanyang mga kasamahan sa kanilang koponan.
Dahil dito, nagbabalak daw ang mga ito na umalis sa kanilang koponan dahil sa umano’y kakulangan ng suporta, dagdag ni Obiena.
“I also received communication on this matter from the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) and will continue to speed things up to help their national sports association and Mr. Obiena. We continue to give the best support we can to our elite athletes,” pahayag ni Bachmann.
