Ipapatawag ngayong araw ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. si Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian upang ipahayag ang kanyang pagkabahala sa dumadalas at tumitinding tensyon sa pagitan ng China at Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) at mga Pilipinong mangingisda.
Matatandaang noong Pebrero 6, tinutukan ng military grade laser ng Chinese Coast Guard and barko ng PCG sa Ayungin Shoal habang nagsasagawa ng rotation and resupply mission sa Philippine Navy. Nagdulot din ito ng pansamantalang pagkabulag sa mga tripulante ng coast guard.
Nauna nang ipinahayag ni China Foreign Ministry noong Lunes, Pebrero 13 na nag-trespass o nanghimasok ang barko ng PCG sa Renai Reef ng walang permiso ng Chinese Coast Guard.
Samantala, naghain na rin ng diplomatic protest ang Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) kaugnay sa nangyaring insidente.
Ayon kay Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Teresita Daza, nadidismaya sila sa mga agresibong aksyon ng China kung saan kakatapos lang bumisita ni Pangulong Marcos sa China noong nakaraang buwan.
