Aprubado ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na mas palawakin ang pagtatanim ng hybrid rice upang tumaas ang ani at kita ng mga magsasaka.
Sa pakikipagpulong ni Marcos sa CEO ng SL Agritech Corporation (SLAC), na si Henry Lim Bon Liong at mga Central Luzon farmers, inirekomenda nito na gawin alternatibo ang pagtatanim ng mga hybrid rice.
Sa ulat ng mga hybrid farmers, umaani sila ng humigit-kumulang pito hanggang 15 metriko tonelada (MT) kada ektarya kumpara sa average na 3.6 MT kada ektarya para sa inbred seeds.
Batay din sa pinagsamang pag-aaral ng Department of Agriculture (DA) at local government units (LGUs) sa nakalipas na dalawang taon, ang hybrid system ay nagbigay ng 41% na masaganang ani kaysa sa conventional inbred seeds.
Sinabi ni Bon Liong na ang hybrid technology ay magbibigay ng mas magandang kita sa mga magsasaka at makakamit ang rice sufficiency para sa bansa.
Mungkahi din SLAC na itanim ang mga hybrid rice sa 1.90 milyong ektarya lupa na tinataniman ng inbred seeds sa loob ng apat na taon.
Bilang tugon, sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos na magpapatupad siya ng programa upang isulong ang pagbabago sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng subsidy at mapadali ang loan financing sa mga magsasaka.
Ang SLAC isang private company na nagsasagawa ng research, development, production, at distribution ng hybrid rice seeds at premium quality rice.
