Former two-division champion Conor McGregor finally broke his silence after UFC President Dana White recently announced his octagon return this year against ex-Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler.
McGregor on Monday spoke in front of the camera for the first time about his upcoming bout against Chandler who was also revealed to coach in The Ultimate Fighter 31.
“I’m looking forward to it,” McGregor told Britain’s The Daily Mirror. “I’m looking forward to it. I feel good. I feel energetic. I feel ready. You know, I’m throwing up my high kicks faster than I’m throwing out my jab. So I’m very excited to get back.”
The UFC has still not provided a specific date for the match but at the earliest, it may take place in the last quarter of 2023.
For the location, White has neither made an announcement but floated potential venues including New York’s Madison Square Garden, Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena or Allegiant Stadium, or the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The 34-year-old Irish-born fighter with a record of 22-6 has not competed for more than a year after he broke his leg against Dustin Poirer in July 2021.
Meanwhile, Chandler (23-8) is also coming off a loss to Poirer in a round three submission in UFC 281 last November.
McGregor recently flew to Las Vegas for the filming of the TUF which is set to begin this month.
