Matapang na sinabi ng Foreign Ministry ng China na hindi sila natatakot at natitinag sa defense treaty ng Pilipinas at Amerika.
Hingil ito sa isyu ng pinag-aagawang teritoryo ng Pilipinas at China sa West Philippine Sea na patuloy pa ring lumalala ang tensyon.
Kaharap ang media sa Beijing, mariing pinagpilitan at inulit ni Wang Wenbin, spokesperson ng Ministry of Foreign Affairs na ang 2016 arbitral ruling ng Permanent Court of Arbitration sa Hague na pabor sa Pilipinas ay ilegal at walang bisa.
“We would also like to point out that the South China Sea arbitration case brought by the Philippines was pure political drama orchestrated by the US,” pahayag ni Wenbin.
“Its so-called ruling is illegal, null and void and will have no effect whatsoever on China’s claims to rights in the South China Sea,” dagdag pa nito.
Maliban dito, pinagkibit balikat lang din ni Wenbin ang binitawang pangako ng Washington na idedepensa nila ang Pilipinas sa anumang laban nito alinsunod sa Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) na nilagdaan ng Pinas at Amerika noong 1951.
Ayon kay Wenbin, ang ginagawang panakot daw ng Amerika na MDT nila ng Pilipinas ay hindi nagdudulot ng takot sa China at hindi daw magbabago ang kanilang paninidigan na ipaglaban ang kanilang interes.
“The US invokes its Mutual Defense Treaty with the Philippines at every turn in an attempt to intimidate China, but it will not weaken our resolve and will to safeguard China’s legitimate and lawful rights and interests” ayon sa tagapagsalita.
Matatandaang kinondena ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas ang pinakahuling pag-atake ng Chinese Coast Guards (CCG) sa barko ng (Philippine Coast Guard) noong Pebrero 6. Base sa ulat, tinutukan ng military-grade laser ng CCG ang tripulante ng PCG na nagdulot ng pansamantalang pagkabulag.
