Kinumpirma ng Department of Health (DOH) ang unang kaso ng omicron subvariant XBF sa bansa kahapon, Pebrero 15.
Ang unang kaso ng XBF subvariant sa Pilipinas ay nadiskubre sa resulta ng isinagawang genome sequence noong Enero 28.
Ang XBF ay recombinant sublineage ng BA.5.2.3 at CJ. 1 na kamakailang naidagdag sa listahan ng mga Omicron subvariants na binabantayan kabilang ang XBB.1.5 at CH.1.1.
Ang subvariant na ito ay iniuugnay sa biglaang pagtaas ng kaso ng COVID-19 sa Australia at Sweden.
Ito rin ang bumubuo sa 55 porsyento ng kabuuang kaso ng COVID-19 sa Victoria, Australia.
“Preliminary studies also show that many of Australia’s antiviral treatments against Covid-19 were no longer effective against multiple Omicron subvariants circulating in the country, including XBF,” saad ng DOH
“However, currently available evidence for XBF does not suggest any differences in disease severity and/or clinical manifestations compared to the original Omicron variant,” dagdag nito.

Bukod dito, 26 kaso ng XBB ang namataan sa bansa kabilang ang dalawang kaso ng XBB.1.5, 10 kaso ng BA.2.3.20, 3 kaso ng BA.5, 2 kaso ng BA.2.76 at isang kaso ng XBC. Dalawampu sa mga sample ay naiuri bilang bilang Omicron sublineages.
