Nagkaisang nanawagan ng suporta ang mga mambabatas sa posibleng imbestigasyon ng International Criminal Court (ICC) kay dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Pinangunahan ni dating Pangulo at ngayo’y House Senior Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at 18 pang mambabatas ang kanilang panawagan na ipagtanggol ang dating Pangulo kaugnay ng umano’y madugong giyera kontra droga sa panahon ng kanyang administrasyon.
Ang 19 mambabatas ay naghain ng House Resolution (HR) No. 780 na pinamagatang “A Resolution In Defense of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines, Against Investigation And/Or Prosecution of the International Criminal Court”, na humihikayat sa Kamara na idineklarang “unequivocal defense of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.”
Binigyang diin sa HR 780 ang mga nagawa ni Duterte sa war on drugs, insurgency, separatism, terorismo, korapsyon sa gobyerno at kriminalidad ay nakatulong upang mapabuti ang buhay ng mga Pilipino.
Ipinunto ni Macapagal-Arroyo na ang Pilipinas ay kumalas na sa pagiging miyembro ng ICC noon pang 2019.
Samantala, nanawagan din si Surigao del Sur 2nd District Rep. Johnny Pimentel kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., na suportahan at depensahan si Duterte sa imbestigasyon ng ICC.
Kabilang si Pimentel sa labing siyam na mambabatas na sumusuporta sa HR 780.
Dagdag pa ng mambabatas hindi na dapat panghimasukan pa ng ICC ang usaping panloob ng Pilipinas dahil gumagana ang hudikatura sa Pilipinas.
