Inanunsyo ito ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) matapos mailigtas ang walong Pilipino mula sa isang crypto-trafficking ring na nag-ooperate sa Myanmar, Laos at Cambodia.
Karamihan sa mga biktima, mga dating OFWs at madalas na bumabyahe sa iba’t ibang bansa.
Ayon sa mga biktima, pinangakuan sila na bibigyan ng magandang sweldo bilang call center agent, subalit pagdating doon, pinilit silang mag-recruit at manlinlang upang mamuhunan sa pseudo crypto account gamit ang social media.
Ilan din sa mga biktima ang nakaranas ng pananakit at pahirap mula sa mga miyembro ng sindikato.
Sinabi ni BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco, batay sa pinakabagong mga biktima, target ng mga trafficker ang “highly-educated professionals” na naghahanap ng oportunidad sa trabaho online.
Muling nagpaalala ang ahensya, mag-ingat sa mga job postings na nakikita sa internet. Huwag magpapabitag sa alok na mataas na sweldo.
