Land owners from Malaybalay, Bukidnon flew to Manila just to seek the audience of investigative journalist Mr. Ben Tulfo and his television program #ipaBITAGMo at IBC TV13.
According to Tobias Fulgencio, representative of the group, the regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Cagayan de Oro has failed to pay them after the agency obtained their private properties back in 2016.
“Ginamit nila ang lupa namin sa kanilang project, ang sabi po nila babayaran nila kami pero lagpas na anim na taon na hindi pa rin po kami na babayaran” Fulgencio told Mr. Tulfo.
In 2016, DPWH Cagayan acquired their private lands to be used for the construction of By-Passes and Diversion Roads in Sayre Highway Parallel Road II in Managok, Malaybalay area.
The total unpaid amount of P12.8 million has not been granted to 17 affected families in Malaybalay, Bukidnon.
In an exclusive interview with the information officer of DPWH Cagayan, Mr. Ben Tulfo asked about the status of the unpaid claims.
“Until now we are waiting for the released of funds para po doon sa mga claimants na, from Central office po manggagaling,” says Vinah Maghinay, information officer of DPWH Cagayan.
“Ma’am, what took it so long, dumaan na ang pandemic, naghahantay pa rin sila? Namuti na ang mata ng mga residente. Something is wrong here,” Tulfo told Maghinay.
Tulfo added that the families which are primarily “old folks” have already suffered enough because of the delayed payment.
“Sampu po ang pumunta sa amin dito, this people are old folks at na perwisyo na po sila, napasok na po ang lupa nila, nailagay niyo na po ang mga kalsada. Ibig sabihin kasama na sila sa pondo ng proyekto, ngayon nasaan na po ang bayad?” Tulfo asked.
Maghinay again reiterated that their office is also waiting for the central office to release the requested funds.
DPWH Cagayan then requested the help of Mr. Ben Tulfo through his television public service program #ipaBITAGmo to assist them to follow up their fund request at their central office.
“Kami po sa BITAG, we are trying to be conciliatory, we want to solve the problem ayaw po naming maging kabahagi ng problema bagkus ang gusto naming mga Tulfo brothers maging kabahagi ng solusyon,” Tulfo explained.
“Kaya kami nananawagan sa’yo Sec. Manuel Bonoan ng DPWH, na matulungan ang mga residenteng ito. Pitong taon na pong nag-aantay,” Tulfo’s appeal during his live program.
