Patay ang dalawang sundalo matapos paulanan ng bala ng New People’s Army (NPA) noong Lunes, February 20 sa Camalig, Albay Province.
Dead on the spot sanhi ng maraming tama ng bala ng baril sa katawan sina Private John Paul Adalim at Private Mark June Esico.
Ayon sa nakasaksi na si Dennis Misolania, Village Chieftain ng Cotmon, bumibili lamang ang dalawang sundalo sa palengke ng barangay ng tambangan sila ng tatlong rebeldeng NPA. Gagamitin sana nila ang mga suplay na pagkain sa isasagawa nilang search operation sa bumagsak na Cessna RPC340 sa boundary ng Guinobatan at Camalig.
Kinondena naman ni Major General Adonis Bajao ng Joint Task Force Bicolandia ang nangyaring insidente at tinawag na act of cowardice ang ginawa ng NPA.
Ayon kay Major General Adonis Bajao, “Masyado nang desperado ang mga teroristang grupo dahil sa walang humpay na operasyon sa kabundukan ng Philippine Army na nagpapahina pa lalo sa kanilang grupo.”Dagdag pa niya, “Pagpapakita rin ito ng kanilang kaduwagan at kawalan ng respeto sa karapatang pantao sa pamamagitan ng pagkitil ng buhay kabilang na ang mga sundalong nakatalaga sanang magpaabot ng tulong at magsalba ng buhay ng ating mga kababayan.”
