Simula ngayong araw, Pebrero 23, mabibili at available na sa Pilipinas ang satellite internet service na Starlink.
Ito ang masayang inanunsyo sa Twitter post ng businessman at may-ari ng Starlink at SpaceX na si Elon Musk.
Noong nakaraang taon, inaprubahan na ng National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) ang Starlink Internet Services Philippines Inc.
Sinabi ni Information Technology Secretary na si Ivan John Uy na nakikipag-uganayn na siya kasama ang Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) upang alamin ang GIDAs o Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas kung saan idedeploy ang LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellite internet service.
“Until such time there is an economic upliftment in the communities, “saad ng kalihim.
Inilalagay ng Starlink ng SpaceX ang mga low earth orbit satellite sa kalawakan upang magtatag ng koneksyon sa internet. Ang koneksyon na iyon ay sinasabing maabot kahit sa mga malalayong lokasyon.
Sa ngayon ay pwede nang bumili ng satellite unit kit sa halagang P29,320 habang kailangan namang mag-bayad kada buwan ng P2,700 para sa internet service na may bilis na 200 Mbps. Ang pagpapadala ng hardware ay tatagal ng tinatayang dalawa hanggang tatlong linggo pagkatapos mailagay ang order.
Sinabi naman ng Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) na ang Pilipinas ang una sa Southeast Asia na makaka-avail ng Starlink technology.
