Iminumungkahi ngayon sa Kongreso ang pagkakaroon ng bansa ng Virology Research Institute (VRI) bilang paghahanda sakaling magkaroon ulit ng pandemya.
Ayon kay Deputy Speaker at Las Piñas City Rep. Camille Villar noong Huwebes, isinusulong nya ang pagpasa sa House Bill 6542 o ang pagtatayo ng Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines (VIP). Layunin din daw nito na mahikayat ang mas maraming Pilipinong scientist na bumalik sa bansa.
“We hope that our brilliant Filipino scientists, researchers and fellows will return to the country to contribute to the establishment of the VIP and ensure its success,” ayon kay Villar.
Ang VIP ang magsisilbing premier research at development institute sa larangan ng Virology kung saan magiging sakop nito ang lahat ng uri ng virus at viral diseases na matatagpuan sa mga tao, halaman at mga hayop.
Ito din ang magsisilbing ugnayan ng bansa sa mga international organizations sa pagsasagawa ng innovative at pioneer research na mag-a-advance sa virology research ng Pilipinas.
Ang VIP ay mapapasailalim sa Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Samantala, naglaan na ang Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) ng limang ektaryang lupa sa National Government Administrative Center sa New Clark City, Tarlac para sa posibleng lokasyon ng VIP.
