Matapos ang dalawang araw na paghahanap, natagpuan na ng mga rescuers ang mga labi ng apat na sakay ng bumagsak na Cessna plane 340 malapit sa bunganga ng Bulkang Mayon.
Sa isang press briefing noong kahapon, sinabi ni Camalig Mayor Carlos Irwin Baldo Jr. na hindi pa nila matiyak kung kailan maibababa ang mga bangkay mula sa crash site. Isinasang-alang daw nila ang matarik at mapanganib na lupain. Mano-manong din umano din nilang ibababa ang mga labi ng mga biktima mula sa bulkan.
“Even if they (retrieval team) already found [the bodies], it would still be difficult for them to carry them down because of the dangerous terrain. They had a hard time trekking upward, what more on the retrieval,” ani Baldo.
Nawala ang kontak ng Cessna RPC340 noong Pebrero 18 dakong alas-6:43 noong Sabado matapos itong umalis sa Bicol International Airport.
Kinilala ang mga nasawi na sina Capt. Rufino James Crisostomo Jr., crew at mechanic na si Joel Martin; at ang Australian passenger na sina Simon Chipperfield at Karthi Santhanam at consultants ng Energy Development Corporation.
Samantala, iniimbestigahan na din ng Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines ang posibleng dahilan ng pagbagsak ng eroplano.
Base sa mga nakalap na dokumento sinabi ni Col. Rommel Ronda na walang black box ang nasabing Cessna plane dahil hindi nito naabot ang weight requirement para sa pag-install ng device.
