Sumungkit ng gintong medalya ang anak ni Leyte Rep. Richard “Goma” Gomez na si Juliana Gomez sa UAAP Season 85 Fencing Championships na ginanap sa UST gym sa Maynila nitong Biyernes.
Nanaig ang anak ni Goma sa women’s individual epee kontra kay Cyra Vergara ng La Salle sa iskor na 15-10.
Ito ang kauna-unahang gintong medalya ng nakababatang Gomez para sa University of the Philippines (UP) sa nasabing liga.
Sa isang social media post, ipinabatid ng kanyang ama –na isang Southeast Asian (SEA) games medalist– ang pagbati sa kanyang tagumpay.
“Let your hard work and passion to win shine among the brightest stars in the universe. Congratulations Juliana Gomez, we are so proud of you,” wika ng kanyang ama na siyang pangulo ng Philippine Fencing Association at vice-president ng Philippine Olympic Committee.
Bago pa ito, una nang nag uwi ng bronze si Gomez sa Mohun Fencing Minime & Open 2023 na ginanap sa Bangkok, Thailand nitong Enero.
