Balak ng Philippine National Police (PNP) na pumasok sa isang kasunduan kasama ang Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) at Philippine Navy upang paigtingin ang seguridad sa katubigan ng bansa.
Ayon kay PNP chief PGen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., ito ay upang pigilan ang paglaganap ng mga transnational crimes katulad ng smuggling at human trafficking partikular sa boundary ng Indonesia at Malaysia.
“We want to have a memorandum of understanding with the PCG and Navy to secure our seas and prevent the entry of contraband,” wika ni Azurin noong Lunes.
Ayon kay Azurin, limitado ang kakayahan ng PNP Maritime Group na paigtingin ang seguridad sa baybayin ng bansa.
Dahil limitado rin ang kanilang mga kagamitan, kailangan magsasanib pwersa ng tatlong law enforcement agencies ayon kay Azurin.
Kamakailan, bumili ang PNP ng P1.2 bilyon halaga ng mga kagamitan upang palakasin ang kapasidad ng pambansang kapulisan.
Kasama dito ang dalawang tactical vessel at 200 patrol vehicles.
