Nasabat ng Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Subic ang 30,000 sako ng misdeclared sugar na nagkakahalaga ng P150 milyon.
Sa ulat ng ahensya, nadiskubre nila ang sako sakong asukal sa 58 container na dumating sa freeport. Inalerto ng Department of Agriculture (DA) ang Customs sa nasabing shipment.
Pinangunahan ni Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio at Subic District Collector Maritess Martin ang eksaminasyon sa mga shipment. Kinumpiska na rin ito ng BOC dahil sa paglabag sa Section 1400, concerning Section 1113 (f) ng the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and Sugar Regulatory Authority at ng BOC Joint Memorandum Order No. 04-2002.
Maliban dito, isinailalim na rin ng BOC sa eksaminasyon ang dalawang container ng squid ring na puno ng mga hindi dineklarang assorted frozen meat product na nagkakahalaga ng P40 milyon.
“The BOC continues to maximize its intelligence resources and intensify enforcement measures to thwart all smuggling attempts, especially those involving agricultural products that negatively impact our local farmers and businesses,” ayon kay Rubio.
“It has always been a priority of the BOC to protect local consumers against the health hazards posed by these illegally imported goods,” dagdag pa ng opisyal.
