Nagbabala ang Department of Health (DOH) sa publiko, huwag munang kumain ng mga lamang-dagat mula sa mga lugar na apektado ng oil spill.
Sa pagbisita ni DOH Officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire sa Oriental Mindoro, sinabi niya na dapat din na iwasan ng mga residente ang paglangoy sa dagat na kontaminado ng pagtagas ng langis. Hinimok rin ng opisyal na pansamantalang lumikas ang mga residente dahil sa mga posibleng epekto nito sa kalusugan.
“Pinapaalalahanan ng Kagawaran ng Kalusugan ang mga mamamayan ng kung ang lugar ng oil spill ay malapit sa inyong tirahan, mas mainam kung tayo ay humanap ng pansamantalang matitirahan habang ito ay hindi pa nakakalap,” pahayag ni Vergeire.
“Huwag gumamit ng tubig na kontaminado ng langis para sa pagkonsumo ng mga tao o hayop. At huwag kumain ng isda, molusko, at iba pang pagkaing-dagat na nahuli sa lugar malapit sa oil spill” dagdag pa nito.
Base sa monitoring report ng Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), 13 bayan na ng Oriental Mindoro ang apektado ng oil spill. Ito ang mga bayan ng Naujan, Pola, Pinamalayan, Gloria, Basud, Bongabong, Roxas, Mansalay at Bulacacao. Tinatayang 10,362 pamilya o 48,885 ang mga apektado.
Patuloy naman ang isinasagawang disaster forensic at clean up operations sa karagatan ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) kasama ang iba’t ibang mga ahensya at kumpanya.
Ang langis na mabilis na kumalat sa dagat at baybayin ng Mindoro at mga karatig-probinsya ay mula sa lumubog na motor tanker MT Princess Empress noong Pebrero 28.
