Dalawang Filipino Senior Highschool Student (SHS) ang naimbitahan lumahok para sa isang study tour sa Vienna, Austria matapos nilang manalo sa virtual education exhibition.
Sa gabay ng kanilang guro na si Mischelle C. Maongca, nanalo ang Grade 12 students na sina Salina M. Konno at Jhames Bernard M. Dingle ng Francisco E. Barzaga Integrated Highschool sa Dasmariñas, Cavite sa virtual Nuclear Science and Technology (NST) Education Exhibition 2023.
Wagi ang kanilang video presentation na pinamagatang “Doing the Initiatives: Making plastic useful not awful” na tungkol sa pag resolba sa plastic pollution sa pamamagitan ng nuclear technology.
Dahil dito, ang dalawa ay napabilang sa mga lalahok sa study tour ng International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) headquarters sa Vienna.
“We discussed a chemical recycling process that aims to eliminate the aforementioned problem, namely pyrolysis,” wika ni Konno. “It is a thermo-chemical plastic waste treatment technique that uses heat to change the chemical composition of materials, which are then cooled and compressed into a variety of useful products in society,” dagdag nito.
Para kay Dingle, mahalaga ang nasabing inisyatiba dahil ito ay nagpapalaganap ng kamalayan tungkol sa mga epekto ng plastic pollution sa buhay ng bawat organismo sa mundo.
“Kabilang na rin ang pagbibigay ng impormasyon sa kung paano masosolusyonan ang hamon gamit ang agham at teknolohiya,” ani Dingle.
Nakatakdang maganap ang nasabing study tour sa pagtatapos ng 2023 o pagsisimula ng 2024.
