Mayorya ng mga mambabatas sa Kongreso ang pumabor sa panukala batas na government rightsizing.
Sa kabuuang bilang na 316, 292 ang na mga kongresman ang bomoto sa ikatlo at huling pagbasa sa isinusulong na batas. Ang government rightsizing ay ang pag-aalis sa ilang mga opisina ng gobyerno na may katulad na tungkulin o redundant functions.
Sakaling maging ganap nang batas ang House Bill (HB) No. 7240, bubuuin ang Committee on Rightsizing the Executive Branch na mamahala kung anong mga government functions at organization ang kailangan pag-isahin at pagsamahin.
Samantala, tatlong mambabatas naman mula sa Makabayan bloc ang kumontra sa panukala. Ikinababahala nila na posibleng mawalan ng trabaho ang ilang mga government employees.
Tiniyak naman ng mga opisyal ng gobyerno na hindi nangangahulugang tatanggalin ang mga empleyado dahil maaari silang mailagay sa mga priority sector.
