Isinusulong ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri ang dagdag sahod sa mga empleyado sa pribadong sektor sa buong bansa.
Ayon sa Senate Bill No. 2002 o Across the Board Wage Act of 2023, dagdag na P150 kada araw sa sahod ang inilatag ng panukala. Pangontra daw ito ng pamahalaan sa nararanasang inflation.
Ayon kay Zubiri, matutugunan ng panukala ang gastusin sa pagkain, tubig, gasolina, kuryente, damit, transportasyon, renta, komunikasyon at personal na pangangailangan ng mga manggagawa sa pribadong sektor.
“Given the urgency of the situation, a legislated wage increase is called for to ease the effect of wage erosion brought about by inflation,” wika ni Zubiri sa kanyang explanatory note, habang nasa 8.6% ang February inflation.
Kung sakaling maipasa bilang batas, inoobliga ang lahat ng employers sa pribadong sektor (agrikultural o non-agricultural) na taasan ang sahod sa kanilang mga manggagawa “across-the-board” ng P150 kada araw.
Ang sinumang kompanya na lumabag dito ay mahaharap sa multang P100,000 hanggang P500,000.
“A decent life costs a decent wage. If workers are putting in hours and hours of labor, day after day, and yet are still unable to afford their rent, bills, and basic necessities, then there is a problem,” pahayag ni Zubiri.
