Nasa 12,000 sundalo mula sa United States of America (USA) ang dadating sa Pilipinas upang lumahok sa 2023 Balikatan Exercises na idadaos mula Abril 11 hanggang 28.
Ayon kay Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Joint and Combined Training Center Director, gaganapin ngayon taon ang pinakamalaking Balikatan Exercises sa pagitan ng AFP at US military na sasalihan ng 17,600 Filipino at US troops sa kabuuan.
Bukod dito, kabilang din sa mga dadating sa bansa ay 100 sundalo mula Australian Defense Force. Pupunta rin ang ilan mula sa Japan Self Defense upang mag obserba, ayon kay Logico na siya ring spokesman para sa 2023 Balikatan Exercises.
“This is officially the largest Balikatan exercise,” wika ni Logico kung saan sinabi nito na gaganapin ang naturang aktibidad sa Northern Luzon, Palawan at Antique.
Sa unang pagkakataon, makakasama ng Pilipinas ang US sa live fire-exercises sa katubigan ng Zambales.
Bukod dito, magkakaroon din ng mga aktibidad sa pagpapaigting ng cyber defense.
“It has always been an interoperability exercise to test our concepts for maritime defense, for coastal defense and maritime domain awareness…So ‘yun ang themes of the exercise,” ani ng opisyal.
Samantala, hindi naman nagbigay ng diretsahang sagot si Logico nang tanungin ito kung makakaapekto ba ang pagdayo ng US military sa namumuong tensyon ng Pilipinas at China sa West Philippine Sea.
“We have the absolute, inalienable right to defend our territory,” sabi ni Logico. “We are here to practice. We are here to show that we are combat-ready.”
Nakatakdang dumating sa bansa ang ilang mga US military assets para sa gaganaping pagsasanay tulad ng mga barkong pandigma at eroplano, ayon kay Logico.
