Umabot sa 86 na mga kabataan ang tinamaan ng human immunodeficiency virus o HIV noong buwan ng Enero.
Ayon sa Department of Health (DOH), 79 sa mga ito ay nasa edad 10 hanggang 19 anyos habang pito pa ang wala pang siyam na tanong gulang. Sinabi ni DOH Officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire, isa sa malaking ng paglobo ng kaso ay ang madaling access ng mga kabataan sa social media.
“Ngayon po napansin natin among the young individuals who are practicing unsafe sex, they already have social media applications where they can meet and chat at eto na po ‘yung ginagamit ng mga kabataan natin ngayon para sila ay magkaroon ng ganitong klaseng pagkikita at illicit behavior.
Binigyang diin ni Vergeire na mahalaga pa din ang papel ng mga magulang upang magabayan at maturuan tungkol sa “safe sex”. Pinaalala din niya na bagama’t habambuhay na ang HIV, maaari mapigilan ang pagkalat ng virus sa tulong ng pag inom ng mga gamot.
“Kung sa tingin niyo po nagkaroon kayo ng risky behavior, libre po ang gamutan at test for HIV. Kailangan niyo lang pumunta to your local governments,” wika ni Vergeire.
