Binigyan ng permiso ng Supreme Court (SC) si Rappler Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Maria Ressa na makalabas ng bansa mula March 13 hanggang April 1, 2023.
Ayon sa First Division ng SC, pinayagan si Ressa na pumunta ng Canada, France, South Korea at United States para dumalo sa kanyang ‘speaking engagements’ sa ilang mga kondisyon.
Sinabi ng SC na hindi maaaring pag usapan o magbigay ng anumang komento sa publiko si Ressa ukol sa kanyang kasong libelo gayundin ang ilan pang mga bagay na kaugnay dito.
Kasama naman sa kaniyang pag-alis ay ang cash bond na P100,000.
Bukod dito, dapat ding ipaalam ni Ressa sa SC ang kanyang pagbabalik sa bansa sa pamamagitan ng liham sa loob ng limang araw bago ang kanyang pagdating.
Matatandaang pinagtibay ng Court of Appeals (CA) noong Oktubre 2022 ang cyberlibel conviction kina Ressa at dating Rappler researcher na si Reynaldo Santos.
Ang naturang kaso ay kaugnay sa isang article na inilabas ng Rappler noong 2012 na nag uugnay sa negosyanteng si Wilfredo Keng sa human trafficking at drug smuggling.
