Sinabi ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) na papalawigin nila ang cash for work program para sa mga naapektuhan ng oil spill sa Oriental Mindoro.
Ayon kay DSWD assistant bureau chief Miramel Laxa, magtatagal ng hanggang 45 na araw ang programa upang matulungan na mabigyan ng kita ang mga mangingisda dahil sa fishing ban.
Kabilang din sa programa ang mga Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) members, at iba pang indigent individuals.
Sa naturang programa, naatasan ang mga residente na mangolekta ng mga materyales na gagamitin upang makagawa ng improvised spill booms at oil absorbents. Makakatanggap sila ng P355 kada araw, na minimum wage.
Matutulungan nito ang 14,504 na mga sa 131 na barangay sa Oriental Mindoro, Palawan at Antique.
Matatandaan noong Pebrero 28, lumubog ang MT Princess Empress na may kargang mahigit 800,000 litrong industrial oil sa karagatan sakop ng Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.
