Kinumpirma ng Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Animal Industry na kanilang nakitaan ng African Swine Fever (ASF) cases sa limang lugar sa probinsya ng Cebu.
Sa isang statement sinabi ng BAI na may na-detect sila na ASF sa Cebu City, Liloan, Sibonga, Tuburan, at Bogo City.
“Samples were then submitted to the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic and Reference Laboratory (RADDL) Region VII and tested using Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), the gold standard for testing and confirming the ASF virus,” ani BAI sa isang statement.
Inirekomenda ng BAI ang pag-pili at pagpatay sa mga alagang baboy na apektado ng ASF na nasasakop ng one-kilometer radius base sa ipinapatupad ng World Organisation for Animal Health at ang Food and Agriculture Organization ng United Nations.
Bago ilabas ang report ng BAI ay tiniyak ni Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia sa isang Facebook post na ligtas kainin ang mga pork products sa Cebu.
“Cebu’s lechon is safe to eat! We, Cebuanos, can still enjoy the best and the tastiest lechon in the country!,” ani post ni Garcia.
Ayon naman sa statement ng Cebu government, ipagpapatuloy nila ang plano na gumawa ng sariling protocol para mapigilan ang pagkalat ng ASF sa probinsiya.
