Nanawagan si Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go na paigtingin ang mga hakbang upang pigilan ang tumataas na kaso ng human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) at acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) sa bansa.
Ikinabahala ng ex-officio member ng Philippine National AIDS Council matapos makapagtala ng Department of Health (DOH) ng 1,454 na bagong kaso ng HIV sa buwan ng Enero ngayon taon.
Sa numerong ito, 86 ng kaso ay kabataan, kabilang ang pitong kaso mula sa mga bata na may edad sampu pababa.
“Ang babata pa nito ,” wika ni Go na siyang chairman ng Senate Committee on Health and Demography.
“Nakakabahala po ito, lalo na ‘yung mga naapektuhan ngayon ay 19 years old and younger,” dagdag nito.
Ayon sa Senador, mayroong “sapat na pondo” ang konseho upang imulat ang kamalayan at labanan ang pagkalat ng HIV/AIDS sa bansa.
Gayunpaman, sinabi ni Go na kakailanganin pa ng mas maraming pamamagitan ng gobyerno upang matugunan ang mga puwang sa pagpapatupad ng Philippine HIV/AIDS Policy Act.
Ayon sa mambabatas, nasa P1.433-bilyon na budget ang inilaan ng gobyerno para sa HIV at iba pang sexually transmitted infections kung saan mayroong P590-million na inilaan noong 2022.
Itinaas naman sa P52-million mula sa dating P43-million ang inilaan na pondo para sa Philippine National AIDS Council sa inaprubahang 2023 General Appropriations Act.
