Pinatawan ng 60-day suspension ng Kongreso si Negros Oriental 3rd district Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. matapos nitong labagin ang mga utos na bumalik sa bansa sa kabila ng kanyang expired travel clearance.
Sa sesyon ng plenaryo noong Miyerkules, lahat ng 292 na mambabatas ng Kamara na dumalo ay bumoto upang suspindihin si Teves sa pamamagitan ng pagpapatibay sa naging mga rekomendasyon ng House Committee on Privileges and Ethics.
“After thorough deliberation and observation of due process, the committee hereby recommends to the House of Representatives the imposition of penalty of 60 days suspension from the service upon Representative Teves for disorderly conduct,” wika ni Committee chair Rep. Felipe Espares sa kanyang sponsorship speech.
Matatandaang hanggang Marso 9 lamang ang ipinagkaloob na travel authority ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez kay Teves upang pumunta ng Amerika.
Dahil aniya sa pangamba sa kanyang seguridad, hindi pa rin umuuwi ng Pilipinas hanggang ngayon ang mambabatas matapos madawit ang pangalan nito sa pagkamatay ni Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo noong Marso 4.
Binigyan naman kamakailan ng panel si Teves ng dalawang deadline upang bumalik sa bansa. Una na rito ang five-day ultimatum noong Marso 15 at 24-hour ultimatum naman noong Lunes. Parehong binalewala ni teves ang mga nasabing ultimatum.
Kahapon, nanawagan narin si Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. kay Teves upang umuwi na ng bansa at harapin ang mga alegasyon laban sa kanya.
